Sustainable Development Project Overview:
Residential Rooftop Solar, Battery Storage, & EV Charging
A South Los Angeles homeowner contacted MREP CA in search of a long-term solution to rising electricity costs and ongoing grid instability. Due to the size of the home, monthly electricity bills routinely ranged between $1,200–$1,300, creating a significant utility expense.
Beyond cost savings, the homeowner needed energy resilience- a system that could protect their home from grid interruptions while providing reliable, clean power year-round.
MREP CA was engaged to design and deliver a comprehensive, sustainable energy solution tailored to these needs.
MREP CA Impact:
To meet the client’s goals, MREP CA served as a sustainable co-developer, forming a joint venture partnership with The Bedford Group of Companies and a local, minority-owned residential solar installation firm under the Bedford Energy Team (Bedford Energy).
Bedford Energy installed 62 Solaria 400-watt solar panels, generating approximately 23 kW of rooftop solar power. The project also included a full roof upgrade featuring a custom “comp-out” tile design, ensuring long-term system durability and warranty protection.
To address grid reliability and outage protection, the system incorporated four (4) Tesla Powerwall battery units, providing an additional 24 kW of battery storage capacity. This integrated solar-plus-storage design enables uninterrupted power during both planned and unplanned grid outages.
As an added benefit, the home was equipped with an EV-ready charging outlet, allowing the homeowner to conveniently and cost-effectively charge their electric vehicle at home.
Project Results:
At completion, the residence was retrofitted with a combined 47 kW solar generation and battery backup capacity, transforming the home into a resilient, clean energy asset.
